Privacy policy
Afya (عافية) helps people in Oman find a doctor and, where available, book a consultation. This policy explains, in plain terms, exactly what the Afya app collects and what we do with it.
Effective 22 July 2026
The short version
- Browsing doctors and clinics needs no account and collects nothing about you.
- When you choose to sign in, we collect one thing: your phone number.
- We never sell your data, never show ads, and never use your data to track you across other apps or sites.
- The emergency red-flag check runs entirely on your phone and sends nothing to us.
What the app collects
The only personal data the app collects is your phone number, and only when you sign in. We use it to verify your identity with a one-time code and to run your account. It is linked to your account.
Before you sign in, you can browse the whole directory as a guest. Guest browsing collects no personal data.
How your phone number is used
- To sign you in and keep your account secure. This is core app functionality.
- It is never sold or rented to anyone.
- It is never shared with advertisers and is never used to track you.
Emergency screening stays on your device
When you describe a symptom to find the right kind of doctor, the app first checks the words on your device for signs of a medical emergency. That check runs offline, on your phone. If it detects an emergency it shows a full-screen prompt to call 9999. The text you typed is not sent anywhere in that case.
If there is no emergency and you ask for a suggestion, only the symptom text you typed is sent to a language model that suggests a type of doctor. We do not send your name, your phone number, or any identifier with it.
No ads, no third-party tracking
The app carries no advertising and no third-party analytics or advertising software. We do not build a profile of you and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
The wider Afya service
The directory itself lists doctors and facilities using information gathered from public sources, such as hospital and clinic websites and official listings: name, workplace, specialty, qualifications, and where stated, gender. This is not collected from you.
If a doctor chooses to claim their profile, we collect the name and contact detail they give us so we can reach them about the request. A doctor can ask us to correct or remove their profile at any time, free of charge.
Where your data is stored
Your data is held on our own managed database (currently hosted in the United States, in the us-east-1 region). We are moving to hosting within the Gulf to keep data in the region, and this policy will be updated when that move completes.
We handle personal data in line with Oman's Personal Data Protection Law, issued by Royal Decree 6/2022.
Your rights: access, export, deletion
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything linked to it. Email faisal@dhahirom.com and we will handle it. Deleting your account removes your phone number from our records.
